A Dog’s Life

“When the Man waked up he said, ‘What is Wild Dog doing here?’ And the Woman said, ‘His name is not Wild Dog any more, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always.’”

~ Rudyard Kipling

Q: So what’s with all the nick names?

A: My dad! See Going Gonzo at our menu page. It will tell you all you need to know. Dad’s a little…different, sometimes.

Q: Speaking of your Dad, I understand he adopted you?

A: Yes! I was found wandering around in Decatur, TX by a Wise County Sheriff’s Deputy. It was late November or early December of 2014 so I was very cold and hungry. Rather than to take me to a shelter I was taken to a local vet where I was treated and taken care of.

Q: Lucky! So how did you end up in the Dallas area?

A: The vet contacted DASH, which stands for Dallas Aussie Shepherd Heeler rescue, a non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue abandoned Australian Shepherds and herding dogs and match them with loving families and permanent homes in Dallas, North Texas and beyond. They took me in and placed me with a wonderful and loving foster family in North Texas!

Q: Wow! Great story! So you obviously ended up getting adopted by IronMan and Tempo. How is that going?

A: How about “Cha-Ching!” Mom and Dad are great! I get to sleep under the bed – my preference – rather than a kennel (in the bed when we are in our RV); I go to doggie day-care almost every day and play with my friends. “Yo, Lupe, Pierre, Sushi; I’m being interviewed!” I get groomed regularly and I pretty much go every where with my Dad and my Mom.

Q: Speaking of your people, what kind of stuff do you like to do with your parents?

A: Everything! Dad rigged up the back seat of his car with a sling-type seat cover and tether so I can look out of the open window without falling out. We go to bar/restaurant patios in the N. Dallas area a lot. We go camping in the RV. In fact we’ve traveled all over the southern US together. I like that the most because I get to run with my Dad while he rides his bike. I also go on long hikes with both my mom and my dad. Plus I go to dog parks. This dog’s life is great!

Hi, I'm Gonzo (call sign "Ironman"). I like to think of myself as an ordinary guy making the "next thing" happen now. I live and work in Texas with my wife, call sign "Tempo" and our fur babies AussieOne, Red and Griz (call signs of course). Together we make up a merry band of travelers wandering in search of extraordinary experiences, good wine and the occasional craft beer. Thank you for your interest in our blog! Cheers!
